What We Do

Legazpi City, Albay and Catanduanes Areas

Healing and Empowerment of Women and Children

Legazpi City is a city to some 210,000 people and is the capital of the Albay province SW of Manila. The Catanduanes province consists of an island offshore of Legazpi and to its NW.

Gender Based Violence (GBV) including sexual assault and exploitation is a problem throughout the Philippines. This project, in partnership with the St Mary Euphrasia Integrated Development Foundation and the Good Shepherd Sisters, helps address the impacts of GBV in the area.

The project works to achieve the healing and empowerment of women and children through personalised interventions, livelihood opportunities and strengthened community support.

The Good Shepherd Home (Legazpi), Inc. deliver services to women and children at their facility in Legazpi called the Good Shepherd Home. Mercy Works is partnered with these local experts to provide a residential refuge from GBV and opportunities for recovery and rehabilitation.

In addition to these specific services, the project also delivers improved GBV awareness and response capabilities through training in the local community.

The project also works to improve the income of beneficiaries through livelihood projects.

In 2024/2025 the project is also expanding to provide improved access to potable water in local communities.

Mercy Works is very pleased to be in partnership with the Good Shepherd Home (Legazpi), Inc. and the St Mary Euphrasia Integrated Development Foundation to support this project based out of Legazpi City.
